Spring Maintenance Checklist

Now that the warmer temperatures have arrived it is time to start thinking about getting your home ready for spring campfires and summer barbeques. This spring maintenance checklist will ensure you don’t forget anything!

 

Indoor

  • Replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Wash comforters and pillows.
  • Freshen up mattress. Sprinkle baking soda over mattresses, let sit for 15minutes then vacuum.
  • Clean carpets and rugs.
  • Dust ceiling fan blades and reverse direction (air should move down).
  • Deep clean kitchen appliances. Don’t forget to clean underneath and behind as well as the inside.
    • Stovetop
    • Oven
    • Microwave
    • Dishwasher
    • Coffee maker
    • Garbage disposal
  • Change furnace air filters.
  • Clean windows (inside and out) and screens.
  • Clean curtains and blinds.
  • Clean walls and ceilings. If you find any cracks fix with fiber tape and joint compound.
  • Wash and put away winter coats, hats, gloves and scarves.
  • Clean faucet aerators and showerheads to remove mineral deposits.
  • Remove lint from dryer vent.
  • Inspect sink, shower and bath caulking for deterioration.
  • Drain or flush water heater.

 

Outdoor

  • Clean out gutters.
  • Touch up exterior paint.
  • Service air conditioning unit.
  • Prune trees and bushes.
  • Remove dead plants.
  • Power wash brick, concrete, walkways, and deck.
  • Caulk around windows and doors.
  • Clean outdoor furniture.
  • Check patio for warped or loose boards, or cracked stones or tiles.
  • Check your roof for warped, cracked or loose tiles.
  • Check for damage on walkways, paths and driveways.
  • Clear lawn of debris (sticks, branches, rocks).
  • Lay down new mulch.
  • Apply lawn fertilizer.
  • Clean and put away snow shovels. Perform maintenance on your snow blower and put it away.
  • Remove insulation from outdoor faucets and check sprinkler heads.
  • Prep your lawnmower: change the oil and sharpen the cutting blade.
  • Wash your garage door.
  • Sharpen garden tools.
